Visual Prayers by Richard Garrod

Visual Prayers is a soft bound book 9 3/4" x 11 1/2" with 52 B/W photographs printed in 2001 in the laser Fultone (Duotone) process by Gardner Lithograph, under the supervision of David Gray Gardner who printed many Ansel Adams and John Sexton books.

The title and theme of the book was inspired by Garrod's studies with Minor White at two workshops as well as thru his many books and articles and in Aperture Magazine. In White's teaching and philosophy Garrod found a credo, later articulated in White's statement that ideally a photographer makes, "his photograph, a prayer. He turns his camera on rocks, water, air and fire, not to escape but to be in life, but not of it."
